The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) awarded 124,000 euros to the sister of Nazran residents Salman and Zhuneyd Gardanov, who were shot by FSB officers. This was reported by «Legal Initiative», the decision was published on the website of the court.
The court found that the Russian authorities had violated Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights (the right to life).
Initially, their father Akhmed Gardanov filed a complaint on behalf of the victims, but he died in 2020, and his wife died in March 2022. Therefore, compensation was awarded to their daughter and sister of the victims, Zaira Yandiyeva.

During interrogations, the FSB officers claimed that, according to the intelligence service, there could be “involved in the activities of the gang underground” in the car. The security forces insisted that those in the car were killed by return fire, but the investigation established that all the shells found at the scene were fired from the weapons of the FSB fighters.
The security forces decided to blow up the car because of the improvised explosives that were allegedly inside. After the execution, according to the forensic examination, there were still living people in the car, but the FSB fighters claimed that the passengers «showed no signs of life.» illegal circulation of weapons (Part 2 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code). The Investigative Committee refused to initiate a case against the security forces for six years, human rights activists note.
