MOSCOW, Oct 6 Tim Hortons and Scotiabank refused to sponsor men's hockey programs Federation of Hockey Canada (Hockey Canada) in the 2022/23 season due to a sexual scandal involving members of the youth national team, according to Sportsnet. Among these programs is the upcoming youth world championship, which will be held in Halifax and Moncton. The tournament was originally supposed to be held from December 26 to January 5, 2023 in Novosibirsk and Omsk, however, due to the situation in Ukraine, the board of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) deprived Russia of the right to host the tournament. The Quebec Ice Hockey Federation also announced that it had lost confidence in Hockey Canada and stopped transferring funds to the national federation. In May, TSN reported that a 24-year-old woman filed a lawsuit in the Ontario Supreme Court in April, alleging that she was repeatedly sexually assaulted in June 2018 in a hotel room. Hockey Canada, the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), and eight unnamed CHL players, including members of the 2018 Canada Youth Team, were named as defendants in the case. The accusations against the players were not proven in court then, the lawsuit was eventually withdrawn after an agreement between the woman and Hockey Canada.
