The Russian human rights organization «Memorial» received the Nobel Peace Prize. This was reported on the Nobel Committee's Twitter account.
In November 2021, the prosecutor's office filed lawsuits to liquidate Memorial. The agency decided that the center violated the labeling requirements for its materials and «systematically concealed information about the performance of the functions of a foreign agent.» As a result, the Moscow City Court liquidated the organization.
Also, the Peace Prize was awarded to the Belarusian human rights activist and chairman of the Viasna Center Ales Byalyatsky and the Ukrainian organization Center for Civil Liberties.
