Two teenagers suspected of setting fire to a banner with a tricolor and the letter V on a monument to Lenin were detained in Ulan-Ude

In Ulan-Ude, police officers detained two 17-year-old teenagers suspected of setting fire to a banner with a tricolor and the letter V, the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Buryatia reports on its Telegram channel.

The police said that one of the suspects is a college student. “The young people repented of their deed and fully admitted their guilt,” the department emphasized.

The banner on the monument to Lenin on Soviet Square was set on fire on the night of October 7, after which the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on vandalism (part 1 Article 214 of the Criminal Code). The stretch itself has already been restored.

In April, a banner with the letter Z was hung on the monument to Lenin, but a week later it was damaged by unknown persons. The damaged banner was immediately replaced with another — already with the letter V.

«The new banner was previously prepared to be replaced at the request of the wives of the military personnel of the Eastern Military District,» the city economy committee explained. Those who damaged the stretching of the authorities were then threatened with a fine under the article on “discrediting” the army (20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).
