File photoMINSK, Oct. 11 The government of Belarus has instructed the Belarusian Foreign Ministry to negotiate and sign a draft memorandum of understanding on biosecurity issues with Russia, according to a resolution of the Belarusian Council of Ministers published on the national legal portal.
"The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus decides to approve the draft memorandum of understanding between the government of the Republic of Belarus and the government of the Russian Federation on issues of ensuring biological safety as a basis for negotiations", the document says.
The resolution emphasizes that it was adopted “in order to develop cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation in the field of biological safety.” In July, the Russian government ordered the Foreign Ministry to conclude a memorandum of understanding with Belarus on biological safety issues. Earlier, State Secretary of the Belarusian Security Council Alexander Volfovich said that at consultations held in Moscow at the end of September with colleagues from Russia managed to develop mechanisms to counter today's challenges and threats, including consideration of issues related to biological safety. Prior to this, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko said that the EAEU countries need to coordinate their positions on this issue in an environment where bacteriological research for military purposes is not ruled out in the world, and adopt an appropriate strategy.Belarus will improve the activities of the system of state security agencies
