The number of victims of an explosion at a mine in northern Turkey has increased to 41, said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Earlier, Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu reported 40 dead. «I regret to report that the death toll is 41 people at the moment,» — Erdogan said in a media statement from the scene. He clarified that an investigation has already begun and all those responsible will be held accountable. The incident occurred on Friday evening in a mine in Bartin province in northern Turkey. As A Haber TV channel reported, 115 people were at the site of the explosion at a depth of 300 meters underground, some of them were evacuated. According to Governor Bartın Nurtaj Arslan, 49 people were trapped in the mine as a result of the incident.
