File photoCHISINAU, Oct 26All representatives of the opposition in Moldova need to unite in order to achieve early presidential and parliamentary elections, former President of the Republic Igor Dodon said in an interview with RIA Novosti. «Everyone needs to unite and do everything possible to achieve early presidential and parliamentary elections — this should be the main goal all opposition, no matter right or left, no matter what they stand for, everyone needs to unite against the authorities and against the dictatorship,” Dodon said. According to him, at this stage, the opposition in the country is divided into two groups. The first includes the Shor Party, the Party of Communists, the Building Europe at Home party and some other political and public figures, this is an active group that holds weekly mass protests. The second group was created by eight parties, including the Party of Socialists, which united under the Common Agenda platform. Will this government be able to cope with the challenges? It will not be easy,» Dodon added. The Shor party, which was joined by the Party of Communists of Moldova (PCRM), has been holding protests in Chisinau for the seventh week. The protesters are outraged by the unprecedented increase in prices for gas, other energy resources and food, as well as high inflation and falling living standards. The protesters accuse the authorities of failing to cope with the crisis, point to a record inflation over the past 20 years, which in September amounted to 33.97% on an annualized basis. The country's leadership is criticized for its unwillingness to negotiate with Russia on more favorable gas prices, as well as for political pressure on opposition representatives. Last Sunday, the police disrupted an opposition rally in the city's main square — the Great National Assembly. The police blocked all entrances and passages to it, as a result, the organizers of the action redirected the columns to the building of the Prosecutor General's Office, where a tent camp was set up. Late in the evening, law enforcement agencies asked the protesters to rearrange the tents more compactly so as not to block the entrance to the Prosecutor General's Office and not interfere with pedestrians, the organizers met the demands of law enforcement agencies. On Monday morning, the police raided the tent city with checks, frightening the demonstrators. In the Shor party, the police action was regarded as another attempt to put pressure on the protests.
