MOSCOW, Oct 28 The International Automobile Federation (FIA) granted Alpin's appeal «on a 30-second penalty for the pilot Fernando Alonso, the Spaniard retained seventh place at the US Grand Prix, according to the team's Twitter page. Alonso collided with Canadian Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll on the 22nd lap of the race, held at the circuit in Austin on October 23rd. The Spaniard managed to continue the race and finished in seventh position, but during the incident his mirror was damaged, which came off at the end of the race. Due to this damage to the car, the Haas team filed a protest against Alonso's result. After the end of the race, the Spaniard was penalized for 30 seconds and dropped from seventh to 15th place. Alpin has filed a protest against the decision. According to Autosport, at a hearing Thursday in Mexico, Alonso said the 30-second penalty decision would create a «huge problem» for Formula 1 if it deemed the damaged cars unsafe, which will force «50, 60, 70%» of the cars out of the race. Alpin's protest also claimed that the race stewards did not inform Alonso that his car was damaged, and Haas filed their protest 24 minutes after the deadline.
