WASHINGTON Dec 4 US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that negotiations with Russia are possible if Moscow demonstrates an interest in diplomacy.
On Saturday, French President Emmanuel Macron noted that Paris and Washington should prepare a dialogue between Russia and Ukraine, according to him, the future security architecture of Europe should include security guarantees for Russia.< br>
«There is always value in diplomacy if the parties involved, in this case Russia, are interested in meaningful diplomacy,» Blinken told CBS.
He stressed that there would be no talks with Russia remain on the agenda until the country's leadership demonstrates an interest in their substantial outcome, now, according to the Secretary of State, Moscow is showing the opposite.
«Until [Russian President Vladimir] Putin demonstrates that he is interested in a diplomacy, any progress is unlikely,» the US Secretary of State said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that Russia has always said it is open to negotiations on Ukraine, if Kyiv matures, then the mediation efforts of those who offer will be in demand. Last Thursday, following talks with Macron, US President Joe Biden said he was not planning talks with Putin, but was potentially ready for them if Russia took the necessary steps to resolve the situation in Ukraine. At the same time, John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the National Security Council, noted that the United States does not see Volodymyr Zelensky's readiness to negotiate a settlement of the conflict.
