Apple plans to implement end-to-end encryption for iCloud storage backups. This was reported in a company press release.
The corporation announced the expansion of categories that can be protected with end-to-end encryption from 14 to 23. They will include backups, notes and photos. Judging by the screenshot, the feature will be available when Advanced Data Protection is enabled.
End-to-End Encryption will not cover the three categories of iCloud — mail, contacts, and calendar — due to «the need to interact with global systems.»
