
BELGRADE, Dec 10 Belgrade to send official request to NATO mission command KFOR on the deployment of a contingent of the Serbian police and army to Kosovo and Metohija, President Aleksandar Vucic said in an address to citizens.
«In accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244, we will send a request to the KFOR commander to ensure the distribution of the contingent army and police of Serbia on the territory of Kosovo and Metohija,» he said.
After that, he read out the relevant paragraph of the Security Council resolution. According to Vučić, the official decision of the government on sending the request will be made on Monday, but the command of the NATO mission will most likely reject it. At the same time, he noted that in this situation it is necessary to at least make an attempt.
Earlier today, Kosovo Serbs began erecting barricades in the north of the region after the detention of Dejan Pantic, a former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the self-proclaimed republic, in Pristina. Later, the local police blocked the entrance to the region through the Jarine checkpoint for cars and pedestrians from Central Serbia. The President of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, Viesa Osmani, had to postpone the date of municipal elections in Serb-populated areas, where representatives of the Serbian community had previously resigned from all structures of Pristina. they are constantly increasing the presence of security forces in the north of the region populated by Serbs. According to him, the situation is at a dangerous level.
