UN Dec 17 The UN would like to see it soon not the continuation of arms supplies to the conflict zone in Ukraine, but the establishment of peace in this country, Stefan Dujarric, the official representative of the UN Secretary General, said at a briefing.
He was asked whether the UN considers the US intention to supply Patriot complexes to Kyiv as an escalation.
«I'm not going to comment on every new shipment of weapons. We would like to see not more and more shipments of weapons to the theater of war, but rather the world,» Dujarric said.
According to him, now there is an intensification of the conflict in Ukraine. «There has been an escalation in recent days,» he added.
Earlier, Russia sent a note to NATO countries because of arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo that contains weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russia. The Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation stated that the NATO countries are «playing with fire» by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect.
