
HELSINKI, Dec 17 Estonia is the only country in the world that which spends more than one percent of GDP on aid to Ukraine, the Estonian publication Postimees reported on Saturday.
Postimees cites data from the German statistical company Statista, according to which Estonia provides the greatest assistance to Ukraine in terms of the share of GDP.
«Estonia is the only country in the world that donates more than one percent of GDP to Ukraine — as much as 1.1 percent. Latvia, which is in second place, has provided assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 0.93 percent of its GDP. Poland closes the top three , which donated 0.5 percent of its GDP,» the statement said.
Followed by Lithuania (0.46%), Norway (0.34%), UK (0.26%), Czech Republic (0.24%), Canada (0.23%) and USA ( 0.23%). The publication notes that the United States, «despite all their generosity,» actually ranks ninth in the ranking of Ukraine's donors.
Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on 24 February. President Vladimir Putin called its goal «the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years.» For this, according to him, it is planned to carry out «demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine» to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for «bloody crimes against civilians» in Donbass.
Earlier, the Russian Federation sent a note to NATO countries because of arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo that contains weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russia. The Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation stated that the NATO countries are «playing with fire» by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect.
