SIMFEROPOL, Dec 18 The main requirement for creating a security zone around Zaporizhzhya NPP should be the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops at a distance from which they will not be able to strike at the station, said the chairman of the movement «We are with Russia», a member of the main council of the regional administration, Volodymyr Rogov.
He stressed that Western countries, together with Kyiv authorities continue to speculate on this topic. At the same time, it is obvious that it is the Ukrainian militants who pose a danger to the ZNPP, Rogov noted.
«Therefore, there is only one option for creating a security zone in which Kyiv withdraws its troops and heavy weapons to a distance from which they will not be able to inflict attacks on the nuclear power plant,» he said.
At the same time, according to Rogov, the protection and protection of nuclear power plants will be within the competence of Russia.
Earlier, the IAEA has repeatedly stated the need to create a security zone around the plant.
Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the town of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity — the plant has six power units with a capacity of one gigawatt each. Since March, it has been under the protection of the Russian military. The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that this is a justified step to avoid leakage of nuclear and radioactive materials.
The Ukrainian military continues to regularly shell Energodar and the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant adjacent to the city. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the Kyiv regime seeks to create the appearance of a threat of a nuclear catastrophe by continuing to purposefully shell the ZNPP.
