KABUL, Dec 20 The Taliban* (located under UN sanctions for terrorist activities), which seized power in Afghanistan, banned girls from attending higher education institutions.
«In accordance with the decision of the government (Taliban), higher education for girls is prohibited until further notice,» the decree of the Ministry of Higher Education says.
The order emphasizes that it must be applied as soon as possible and reported on the measures taken to the ministry.
Earlier, the Taliban were criticized for banning secondary education for girls. The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has repeatedly called on the country's authorities to allow girls to continue their education and has expressed concern that if the ban on girls attending secondary schools continues, this will exacerbate the crisis in the country, the situation of security and poverty.
