«The parties must fully fulfill their obligations in accordance with the tripartite ceasefire statement of November 9, 2020 and the statements subsequently agreed,» Jenca said at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
He called on Baku and Yerevan to redouble their diplomatic efforts to achieve a sustainable peaceful solution «before it's too late.»
Aide to the Secretary General called on the international community to prevent the resumption of the conflict between Baku and Yerevan, the consequences of which could affect the entire South Caucasus. and led to casualties among the civilian population. The parties made several attempts to conclude a truce, but the tripartite agreement reached on the night of November 10 was successful. With the mediation of Moscow, Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to completely cease fire, remaining in their positions, and to exchange prisoners and the bodies of the dead. In addition, the Kelbajar and Lachin regions, as well as part of the Aghdam region, which were under the control of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in the interwar period, crossed Baku.
