MOSCOW, Dec 22 Republican leader in the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy, who advocates reducing US aid to Ukraine, said that his position on this issue has not changed after Volodymyr Zelensky's speech.
Earlier, Zelensky arrived in Washington, where he held talks with US President Joe Biden and addressed the US Congress.
«I think it was a very good speech… My position has never changed. I support Ukraine, but I never support a blank check. We want to make sure that there is accountability for all the money we spend», — McCarthy is quoted by CNN.
Earlier, Politico reported that the US authorities are trying to use various means, including blockchain technology, to check where aid sent to Ukraine goes. McCarthy himself has previously said that he is not opposed to helping Ukraine, but will not allow the continuation of the practice of «open checks», when tens of billions of dollars are allocated without audit and accountability.
In November, Republicans in the House of Representatives of the US Congress presented a draft law on the audit of allocated funds for aid to Ukraine. Later, Michael McCall, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, warned of tightening oversight and a move to a more responsible approach to providing assistance to Ukraine.
