
CHISINAU, Dec 21 Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban was elected as the Chairman new political party National Alternative Movement (MAN), the politician himself announced this on Wednesday on social networks.
Earlier, Cheban said that the MAN party congress will be held on Wednesday evening. He noted that the meeting will not be public.
«The first meeting of the National Congress of the MAN Party took place today, my candidacy was proposed for the post of chairman of the political formation. The program of the party was also presented. We will follow the social democratic doctrine of the European type and will stand for European integration,» Cheban said at the briefing, which was broadcast online on social networks.
According to him, the population of Moldova is tired of the inaction of the current authorities, and he is ready to offer a constructive approach to governing the country and an alternative.
«A lot of illegal things are happening in Moldova now, so the party reserves (the right) to manifest any form of political activity, including participation in protests,» Cheban added.
In 2011, Cheban became a member of parliament from the Party of Communists, but a year later he joined the Socialist Party, remaining a member of parliament. From 2015 to 2019, he headed the faction of the Socialist Party in the Chisinau City Council, and from 2016 to 2018 he was an adviser and press secretary to President Igor Dodon. From March to November 2019, he again held the position of a member of parliament, but abandoned it for the post of mayor of Chisinau.
