WASHINGTON, Dec 23 US House Select Committee releases 800 a one-page report following his year-and-a-half investigation into the storming of the Capitol.
The main outcome of the committee's work was the recommendation that the Justice Department file four criminal charges against former President Donald Trump, including inciting or aiding a sedition, in connection with the events of January 6, 2021 when a crowd of Trumpists broke into the building of Congress in an attempt to disrupt the approval of the victory in the presidential election of Joe Biden.
«In the course of its work, the committee has generated a significant amount of new information. We know much more about the president's plans and actions aimed at changing election results than virtually everyone in Congress knew when President Trump was impeached on January 13, 2021 or tried by the Senate in February of that year.» the report says.
The House of Representatives impeached Trump in connection with the storming of the Capitol, but the initiative then did not receive sufficient support in the Senate and therefore had no tangible consequences for the ex-president, who is again going to fight for White home.
«President Trump and several others have developed a number of very specific plans from many separate elements, but all with the same goal of hindering, hindering or influencing the counting of the electoral votes on January 6 and thereby canceling the legitimate results of the election … Witness The testimony demonstrates that President Trump knew the plan was illegal before January 6,» the committee said.
Its recommendations are not binding.
