WASHINGTON Dec 22 US wants Russia to continue » bear responsibility» for the military conflict in Ukraine after it ends, said John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the US National Security Council, at a briefing for journalists.
«After the conflict, we want the Kremlin to be properly held accountable,» he said.
Kirby added that the US and Ukraine are united in holding «Russia to account», including through existing sanctions, export restrictions, and military assistance to Kyiv.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to the request of the leaders of the Donbass republics for help. The West then imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia and increased the supply of weapons and military equipment to Kyiv by amounts estimated at this stage in the billions of dollars.
