The Kirovsky District Court of Irkutsk awarded compensation of 500,000 rubles to Marina Ruzaeva, a resident of Usolye-Sibirskoye, because of torture in the city police department in 2016. This was announced by the human rights foundation «Public Verdict».
The judge appointed the amount half as much as requested by Ruzaeva herself. Her claim has been pending since the end of August. Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in court that the Siberian woman should be compensated not from the state, but directly from the policemen who tortured her. class=»mz-publish-context-cite__image» alt=»1″ />Two hundred complaints of torture — and only one criminal case. In Usolye-Sibirsky, the police are more afraid than criminals
In early January 2016, criminal investigators took 38-year-old housewife Ruzayeva away to interrogate her friend about the murder, who was stabbed to death near her house before the New Year. At the police station, the police handcuffed Ruzayeva to a bench, put a black bag over her head, beat her and tortured her with electric shocks. The police demanded that they plead guilty to the murder and said that the woman «didn't let [them] celebrate the holidays normally.»
A few hours later, Ruzayeva was released. The Investigative Committee opened the case of torture a month later. He was stopped several times, the case went to court four years later. During the investigation of the police case, the house of a witness of torture burned down, and Ruzayeva and her husband, human rights activist Pavel Glushchenko, were smashed in the windshield of the car.
In June 2021, three policemen were sentenced to terms of up to four years in a colony (paragraphs «a», «b» of part 3 of article 286 of the Criminal Code). A year later, in the summer of 2022, the unserved part of the sentence was replaced with forced labor — Ruzayeva's husband discovered this when he noticed that one of the convicts regularly appears on VKontakte.
To the investigator from Usolye-Sibirsky, who led the case about torture of Ruzayeva, in March 2021, she was given a suspended sentence on charges of falsifying evidence. According to the investigation, in the winter of 2016, he indicated in three protocols the data of witnesses who were not actually present at the investigative actions, and forged their signatures.
