MOSCOW, 8 Jan. Despite the supply of new NATO technology, which can be described as offensive, Ukraine should not use it to strike territories that the West recognizes as Russian, commentator Andreas Kluth said in an article for Bloomberg.
«Ukrainians should not use Western weapons for a counteroffensive into Russian territory and should probably refrain from striking the country as a whole,» he said.
According to the journalist, Western countries carefully choose the models of weapons that they send to the Armed Forces. This is due to the fact that the top priority for the United States and allies remains the avoidance of a direct confrontation with Moscow.
At the same time, the announcement of the dispatch of new types of infantry fighting vehicles to Kyiv, including Bradley and Marder, was a major shift in US rhetoric, Germany and France because NATO members had previously refused to provide such vehicles, Kluth concluded.
In December, the Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed officials, reported that the United States had modified the HIMARS systems being transferred to Ukraine so that the Kyiv regime could not use them for strikes deep into Russian territory. According to the publication, the White House considered this action necessary to reduce the risk of conflict with Moscow.
As Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stressed, Russia has never refused to negotiate with Ukraine, but the Kyiv authorities have forbidden it to themselves. According to the president, Moscow does not seek to spin the flywheel of the Ukrainian conflict, but to end it. At the same time, Western countries are increasingly talking about the need to continue hostilities, pumping up Ukraine with weapons and training Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers on their territory.
The Kremlin, for its part, has repeatedly stated that the supply of Western weapons only prolongs the conflict and does not bode well for Ukraine , and transport with weapons becomes a legitimate target for the Russian army.
