MEXICO CITY, Jan 7 accidents in the subway, according to the latest information, 57 people were hospitalized.
At about 9 am on Saturday, two trains collided on the third line of the Mexico City metro between La Raza and Potrero stations in the city center. This line has been stopped. Initially it was reported that one person died and 14 were injured, Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador offered condolences to the victims. The prosecutor's office is investigating the incident.
«On behalf of Prime Minister Claudia Scheinbaum, we have updated the list of hospitalized patients, indicating the names and addresses of hospitalizations,» Public Security Minister Omar Garcia Arfuch wrote in his blog.
In the published list of victims — 57 people aged 16 to 93 years (14 not listed), judging by the names, these are local residents.
Four major accidents have occurred in the Mexico City metro in the past three years. The span of the metro bridge collapsed along with a passing train on May 3, 2021, killing 26 people and injuring 105. In a train collision at Takubaya station on March 10, 2020, one person died and 41 were injured. The fire at the central metro control station on January 9, 2021 caused the death of a person, 29 more were injured.
