
GENEVA, Jan 11 More than 11,000 people have died from COVID -19, and nearly 3 million people were infected worldwide between January 2 and 8, 2023, according to a weekly report from the World Health Organization.
«Worldwide, in the week of January 2-8, 2023, almost 2.9 million new cases and more than 11,000 deaths (from COVID-19 — ed.) were registered,» the document says.
The organization adds that this means a 9% and 12% reduction in weekly cases and deaths, respectively.
According to WHO, as of January 8, 2023, there were more than 659 million confirmed cases and more than 6.6 million deaths worldwide.
