MOSCOW, Jan 16 Power deficit in Ukraine's energy system has increased significantly , emergency shutdowns have been applied in five regions, the national energy company Ukrenergo said.
Earlier on Monday, the Ukrainian energy holding DTEK reported that emergency blackouts were in effect in the Kyiv, Odessa and Dnepropetrovsk regions.
«The deficit in the energy system has increased significantly. This is due to a decrease in electricity production due to rocket attacks on power plants … Oblenergo has been brought reduced consumption limits for the whole day. Due to their excess, emergency shutdowns have been introduced since 9.00 (10.00 Moscow time) in four regions, and from 10.00 (11.00 Moscow time) — in five regions of Ukraine. It is also possible to use emergency shutdowns in other regions,» Ukrenergo said in a message on its Telegram channel.
According to the company, the situation is complicated by weather conditions — gusty wind, icing of wires.
Strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure of the RF Armed Forces began on October 10 — two days after the terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge, behind which, according to the Russian authorities, the Ukrainian special services stand. The strikes are carried out on energy, defense industry, military command and communications facilities throughout the country. After the strikes on November 15, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that almost half of the country's energy system was disabled. In December, Volodymyr Zelensky said that it is now impossible to completely restore the energy system of Ukraine.
