MOSCOW, January 15 Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets said that Turkey offers to provide its territory for exchanges within the framework of the humanitarian corridor between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, while Turkey and Russia themselves have not yet voiced their position on this issue.
«At the moment, the idea of the Turkish side looks like this: they want to become intermediaries, they want to use their channels of communication with the Russian Federation, … civilians or wounded soldiers, we also discussed this, as an option, we could (could — ed.) to first return from the Russian Federation to Turkey, after that they will return to the territory of Ukraine,» he said on the air of the United News telethon.
As Lubinets stressed, at the moment this is just an idea that is being discussed by the parties.
Earlier, a trilateral meeting of the Ombudsmen of Turkey, Russia and Ukraine was held in Ankara. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara supports the opening of a humanitarian corridor for the wounded in connection with the situation in Ukraine, and is ready to take care of their treatment. Russian human rights ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova said she expects clarity from Turkey on the road map for creating such a corridor.
