«The ministers reached a political agreement on the allocation of a new seventh tranche of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 500 million euros. Another 45 million will be allocated from the European Peace Fund for a training mission for the Ukrainian military… The total military assistance will amount to 3.6 billion euros. At the same time In total, the EU has provided Ukraine with military, financial and humanitarian assistance worth 49 billion euros, which makes us Ukraine's most important donors,» Borrell said.
Earlier, the media reported, citing diplomatic sources, that the EU had approved a tranche of 500 million euros. Later, the information was confirmed by the representation of the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council.
The United States has already sent more than $26 billion in aid to Kyiv since the beginning of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, including HIMARS MLRS, NASAMS air defense systems, Javelin anti-tank systems, off-road vehicles, helicopters, and ammunition. The latest package, which was announced on January 19, is valued at $2.5 billion.
Earlier, Russia sent a note to NATO countries over arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo that contains weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russia. The Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation stated that the NATO countries are «playing with fire» by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect.
