An athlete from Moscow was sentenced to 11 years in prison because of a parcel in which drugs were found — they are used in the USA for pain in the joints

The Solntsevsky District Court of Moscow sentenced powerlifter Yevgeny Makarenko to 11 years in a penal colony. She was found guilty of smuggling and illegal acquisition of drugs on a large scale (part 3 of article 229.1 of the Criminal Code, part 2 of article 228 of the Criminal Code). This is reported by SOTAvision.

The prosecutor's office asked to appoint the girl 12 years and 3 months in prison. The case was opened because of a package that Makarenko sent from an elderly friend from the United States, Frank Raucci: in the box, along with sweets, the security forces found 3.71 grams of marijuana, 15 tablets with morphine, and 10 tablets of amphetamine and oxidone — in the United States, these substances are used to treat some diseases, including joint pain. The security forces replaced the parcel with a dummy and detained Makarenko when she came to pick it up at the post office, a few days later the girl was sent to a pre-trial detention center.

As Makarenko herself claimed, she did not know what was in the box. Earlier, she and Raucci did discuss the package, but it was assumed that the American would send her jeans. According to the relatives of the convict, the security forces considered the conversation online about the style and model of jeans to be a veiled conversation about the weight and packaging of drugs — they did not find other evidence of drug smuggling in Makarenko's correspondence. Later, a parcel with clothes also arrived at the post office in Russia.

Raucci himself claimed that he wanted to help the girl and sent her pills for joint pain as a surprise. The man suggested that since Makarenko is engaged in powerlifting, then most likely she is in pain from high loads: “I noticed on her face how it hurts, how her legs hurt when she gets up.” The American added that because of severe pain, he legally buys all the substances transferred in the package in the United States by prescription — the man did not assume that these funds are prohibited in Russia.

According to Makarenko's mother, Natalya Egoshina, the investigators in the case did not interrogate Raucci, although the lawyer indicated the American's Skype account and address in the case file specifically for this. A drug test showed that Makarenko did not use illegal substances. The girl also insisted on conducting an interrogation using a polygraph, but the court refused. » alt=»1″ />Article«Lisa, don't cry. Corrected at 16:46. Initially, the news reported that Makarenko was an assistant to Yabloko deputy Alexei Karpukhin. In fact, this is not so — Karpukhin was not elected a deputy, and Makarenko did not work at his headquarters, she only once helped him with leaflets.
