BERLIN, Jan 26 Sending new weapons to Ukraine will not allow to end the conflict, to resolve the situation, Germany or its partners should organize negotiations, said Bundestag member from the Left Party Sarah Wagenknecht.
On Wednesday the German government announced that it had decided to transfer German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Germany intends to form two tank battalions. At the first stage, they plan to provide a company of 14 Leopard 2 type A6 from the stocks of the Bundeswehr.
“I consider this (the decision of the FRG to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine) very dangerous. And I am worried,” Wagenknecht said on the air of the German Phoenix channel. According to her, such decisions contribute to the increasing escalation of the conflict.
«And I think it's terrible that we think about it only in terms of military logic,» the Left spokeswoman added. She pointed out that the US military, while still at the US military base at Ramstein in Germany, had said that there was zero likelihood that «the Russian side would seize all of Ukraine.» According to her, the probability that Ukraine will be able to win on the battlefield is also extremely small.
«And in this regard, negotiations are necessary,» the politician stressed, adding that only negotiations will make it possible to end this conflict. «But instead, we are supplying more and more weapons, more and more weapons for attacks, now these battle tanks, and meanwhile the Ukrainians are already demanding planes, ships and everything else,» Wagenknecht said, noting that Germany allows itself to be drawn into this conflict all stronger.
To the question whether the deputy sees the conditions for holding negotiations on the Russian side, she replied that «it is necessary to make such a proposal.» «And then you need to influence both sides so that they accept this proposal. But until now, neither the West, nor the United States, nor European governments have made any efforts to initiate such peace talks,» the deputy stressed.
She recalled that such negotiations between the Ukrainian and Russian sides took place in February. «And they advanced quite deeply. They practically managed to agree on the neutrality of Ukraine in exchange for the retreat of the Russian side. But then the Ukrainians stopped these negotiations. And now the death of people continues. In fact, we are seeing a stalemate on the battlefield,» the politician concluded.
