PRAGUE, Jan 28 Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala congratulated General of the Army in the reserve Peter Pavel with a victory in the elections of the head of the republic, his speech was broadcast by local television.
«I congratulate Mr. Petr Pavel on his victory in the presidential elections in the Czech Republic,» said the head of government.

Pavel in the second round of the presidential elections in the Czech Republic is in the lead with 57.1 percent of the vote after counting the data in 90 percent of polling stations. His rival, ex-premier Andrei Babish, has 42.9 percent of the vote.
According to the data of the Czech Statistical Office, after counting 100 percent of the votes, Petr Pavel's candidacy was supported by 58.32 percent of citizens. His rival, former Prime Minister Andriy Babish, won 41.67 votes.
The second round of elections took place on January 27-28, according to preliminary information, the turnout was 70.1 percent. To win the election, one of the contenders is enough to get a simple majority of votes. The inauguration of the new president will take place on March 9.
