MOSCOW, Jan 28 German Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger said that the defense concern is ready to significantly increase the production of tank and artillery ammunition, reports Reuters.
It is noted that Papperger's statement was made against the backdrop of the upcoming first meeting of representatives of the German defense industry with the new Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. The exact date of the meeting is still unknown.
«Rheinmetall is ready to significantly increase the production of tank and artillery ammunition to meet strong demand in Ukraine and the West, and may begin production of HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems in Germany,» the agency said in a material that spoke with Papperger .
According to the head of Rheinmetall, the company is negotiating with the American corporation Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer of the HIMARS MLRS. «At the Munich Security Conference (to be held in February — ed.), we intend to conclude an agreement with Lockheed Martin to start production of HIMARS (in Germany),» Papperger said.
In addition, the defense concern is considering the possibility of building a new gunpowder factory — possibly in Saxony.
