BRUSSELS, Jan 30 NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg urged South Korea start providing military support to Ukraine.
The Secretary General spoke on Monday at the CHEY Institute for Advanced Study in Seoul as part of his visit to South Korea.
«I thank South Korea for the humanitarian and economic support you are already giving to Ukraine. I also call on Korea to step up support, move forward, including military support. The decision is yours, of course, but I can say that NATO allies, who have never previously supplied weapons to countries in conflict, have now changed this policy,» the secretary general said, responding to a request by the moderator of the meeting to comment on the assistance that South Korea can provide.
Among such countries, Stoltenberg mentioned Germany, Norway and NATO candidate Sweden.
Earlier, Russia sent a note to NATO countries because of arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo that contains weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russia. The Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation stated that the NATO countries are «playing with fire» by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Peskov noted that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect.
President Vladimir Putin said that Russia has already heard a lot that the West wants to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian, and this is a tragedy for the entire Ukrainian people. Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev noted that the West, in response to the special operation of Russia, declared a «war by proxy», supplying Ukraine with weapons and maintaining a militaristic frenzy there so that Kyiv «fought to the last Ukrainian», while the interests of the United States or Europe in this case do not suffer .
