
GAZA Jan 29 Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met in the city Ramallah with CIA Director William Burns, reports the Palestinian agency WAFA.
It was previously reported that Burns arrived in the region to negotiate with the leadership of Israel and Palestine against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the West Bank. Burns' trip came ahead of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's visit.
«President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas met tonight (Sunday — ed.) in the city of Ramallah with the director of the US Central Intelligence Agency, William Burns,» the agency said.
It is noted that during a meeting with the director of the CIA, the Palestinian leader stated the importance of urgent intervention to put pressure on the Israeli government to stop unilateral actions and comply with all signed agreements.
On Friday night, Israel and the Gaza Strip exchanged rocket strikes. This was due to clashes between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers in the West Bank city of Jenin, which resulted in the death of at least 10 Palestinians.
