MOSCOW, Jan 31 how, when examining a Trident submarine, bolts fixed with glue were found on the vessel of a nuclear reactor, The Sun newspaper writes.
Flaws in the repair of cooling pipes were revealed when one of these parts fell out during technical checks aboard the Vanguard submarine.
«The glued bolts, there were at least seven of them, held the insulation in the coolant pipes necessary to prevent an accident with the melting of the core of a nuclear reactor similar to the Chernobyl (catastrophe)», the journalists said.
After the incident became known, Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace demanded that a meeting be held and «provide guarantees regarding future work.» A source in the British Navy said that this situation undermines the credibility of the company Babcock, which maintains most of the fleet of equipment of the British army.
Investigators are examining video footage to find out who is responsible for the substandard repairs, the publication concluded.
