BERLIN, Feb. 2 German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that despite all the actions of his ministers, he sleeps quite well and does not expect anyone else from his cabinet to «open Pandora's box.»
Scholz met with his fellow citizens on Thursday evening in the German city of Marburg in the federal state of Hesse. One of the participants of the meeting asked the Chancellor a question about the fact that the German cabinet «will not calm down»: Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht resigned, then the statements of German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock about the «war against Russia», which misled, and now also the desire of the Minister of the Interior, Nancy Feather, to fight for the premiership of Hesse. The man would like to know if Scholz wonders in the morning when he wakes up which of his ministers will «open Pandora's box» this time.
«No… Despite all the difficult times, for the most part I sleep quite well and look forward to the day ahead,» said Scholz. The conversation was broadcast live by the portal of the German government.
He added that Germany is now facing difficult challenges in which it needs good people. «And Boris Pistorius [German Defense Minister, who took over from Lambrecht after her resignation] is wonderful, he will cope with his tasks, he has a lot of experience… and this is good for the Bundeswehr,» the Chancellor explained.
He also noted that Feather considers his Minister of the Interior to be a professional who does his job well. According to him, he can understand those who would like to see her as prime minister in Hesse, «she will do everything every day to fulfill her tasks.»
German Chancellor plans to visit all 16 federal states of Germany during a series of dialogues with fellow citizens. The first of these meetings have already taken place in the summer of 2022 in Lübeck (Schleswig-Holstein), then in Magdeburg (Saxony-Anhalt). In September, Scholz's dialogue with fellow citizens took place in Essen (North Rhine-Westphalia), in November — in Gifhorn (Lower Saxony). The February meeting in Marburg was the fifth in a row. Dialogues between the chancellor and fellow citizens usually take place in the format of a town meeting.
