MOSCOW, Feb 14 weapons and ammunition that were smuggled to rebels in Yemen but were intercepted, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing US and European government sources.
According to unnamed US administration officials, the transfer to Kyiv of 5,000 assault rifles, 1.6 million small arms rounds, a small number of anti-tank missiles and more than 7,000 fuses is being discussed.
According to the publication, we are talking about an arsenal seized in recent months off the coast of Yemen on ships of smugglers who are suspected of having links with Iran.
The Russian Federation has previously sent a note to all countries, including the US, because of arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo that contains weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russia. The Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation stated that the NATO countries are «playing with fire» by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect.
