VIENNA Feb 15 USA, NATO and the European Union along with The Kiev regime is responsible for mine contamination of the territories of Ukraine and Russia, said the head of the Russian delegation at the talks in Vienna on military security and arms control Konstantin Gavrilov.
“We emphasize: the ‘collective West’, which is actively involved in the mine contamination of Ukraine, undermines international efforts in the field of demining, and also strikes a blow to international humanitarian law with its actions. At the same time, it continues to hush up the war crimes of Kiev confirmed by authoritative non-governmental organizations,” said he, speaking Wednesday at a plenary meeting of the OSCE Forum for Security and Cooperation.
According to Gavrilov, «the competent Russian agencies receive confirmation on a regular basis that the United States, NATO and the European Union, along with the Kiev regime, are responsible for the contamination of the territories of Ukraine and the Russian Federation with foreign-made mines, as well as the civilian casualties caused by them.»
The head of the Russian delegation added that currently the Russian Federation «large-scale work is organized in the area of the special military operation to liberate the territories of the DPR and LPR from explosive objects.» However, «full-fledged cleansing of the region is extremely difficult, as Ukrainian nationalists continue to shell civilian targets using cluster munitions, as well as massively lay anti-personnel and anti-tank mines,» Gavrilov said.
«Western weapons sponsors of Kiev, interested in obtaining super profits for the national military-industrial complex, methodically avoid Ukraine's flagrant violations of international obligations under the 1949 Geneva Convention regarding the rules of engagement, Amended Protocol II to the CCW and the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use of Anti-Personnel Mines (KZPM)», he stressed.
