WASHINGTON, Mar 6 Talk of a START extension beyond 2026 is untenable with the current suspension Russia of its participation in the treaty, said US State Department spokesman Ned Price.
“This issue is far ahead of events. Because Moscow announced the suspension of its participation in the treaty, even before that, as we found, Moscow did not technically comply with it. Before talking about what will happen in 2026 and about a potential new treaty, we would like to focus on getting Moscow back into compliance with it, which is in the interests of Americans, Russians and the whole world,» Price said at a briefing in response to question.
According to him, Moscow can easily return to the implementation of START, for this it will only be necessary to allow inspections.
