«I want to point out that there are also speculations that this could be a false flag operation. This would not be the first time in the history of such incidents,» he said before an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Stockholm.
In this regard, Pistorius urged not to make hasty conclusions.
«I am familiar with reports of this investigation (media — ed. note). It is necessary to clearly distinguish whether it was a Ukrainian group, that is, commissioned by Ukraine, or whether it was pro-Ukrainian, without the knowledge of the government.»
Earlier, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that publications about Nord Streams are a coordinated stuffing in the media in order to divert attention.
On Wednesday, Germany's federal prosecutor's office confirmed searches had been carried out on a ship allegedly carrying explosives to blow up Nord Stream.
The New York Times reported on the eve of the availability of intelligence, according to which a certain pro-Ukrainian group, whose plans were not necessarily known in Kiev, was behind the shutdown of the main route for Russian gas supplies to Europe, the Nord Stream pipelines. In turn, the German newspaper Zeit wrote that traces of the attack on pipelines lead to Ukraine. The operation was allegedly carried out on a yacht rented from a company based in Poland, which apparently belongs to two Ukrainians. In response to a request from the German prosecutor's office, it was later reported that the boat was leased by a German company that is beyond suspicion.
