PARIS, Mar 10 France and the UK will not allow the conflict in Ukraine to escalate into a global one war, said French President Emmanuel Macron.
Paris is hosting the 36th Franco-British Summit on Friday, the last time such an event was held in 2018. Among the main topics of the summit are the situation in Ukraine, defense, economic cooperation and immigration.
«We share (with the UK — ed.) the same understanding of the situation in Ukraine: Russia must not win this war, we have been helping Ukraine survive from day one… and we are also doing everything so that this war does not spread to the entire world,» Macron said at a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak following the summit.
Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on 24 February. Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the special operation was a necessary measure, Russia «was left no chance to do otherwise, security risks were created such that it was impossible to respond by other means.» According to him, Russia has been trying for 30 years to agree with NATO on the principles of security in Europe, but in response it faced either cynical deceit and lies, or attempts to pressure and blackmail, while the alliance, despite Moscow’s protests, is steadily expanding and approaching borders of the Russian Federation.
