DONETSK, Mar 13 All sectors of the economy and urban economy of Donetsk are working despite constant shelling by Ukrainian nationalists, Mayor Aleksey Kulemzin said.
«Today, all areas of our city are working. The city continues to live, the city is inhabited,» he said.
He recalled that in 2015 Ukraine plunged the DPR into an economic blockade.
“Everyone had to reorganize very quickly for Russian deliveries. I can say with satisfaction that service and trade enterprises reorganized very quickly. We had empty shelves, but our manufacturers and entrepreneurs managed to fill them,” he said.
In the same way, fuel companies, pharmacy chains, wholesale warehouses were reorganized to supply from Russia.
«In a global sense, we do not have a shortage of medicines,» the mayor assured.
He admitted that it is impossible to compare the current state of the economy of Donetsk and 2010-2012.
«But in the conditions of war, enterprises continue to work, pay wages, pay taxes, provide residents with the necessary products. And at the same time, knowing full well that no one can predict where (the shell) will fly in the next moment» , he noted.
The mines continue to work. «The coal industry is in a difficult situation, but I am sure that the stabilization of the military situation will provide an opportunity for a new round of the coal industry,» Kulemzin added.
