A unique operation to restore the nose of an eight-year-old girl was performed at the Chelyabinsk Regional Children's Clinical Hospital. The child was left without a septum at the tip of the nose in infancy, the doctors sewed a new one from the skin and cartilage tissue of the ear. The technology for the operation was developed by the hospital's reconstructive plastic surgeon Mikhail Korostelev.
“It turned out to be a combined plasty with the use of complex grafts from the auricles. We took the sector of the auricle, and not just the skin, but also the cartilage. This option is my own development. And today we can safely say that these ideas, these guesses were correct and the operation was successful,” said Korostylev.
The little patient lost part of her nose in infancy. The girl was born prematurely, for the first months she breathed through a tube that destroyed the tissues of the nasal cartilage.
“But at that moment it was important for me to save the life of the child, we will deal with the nose later,” says the girl’s mother.

“They said you need to take a cloth from your forehead and transfer it to your nose and walk with this piece for two months. I was shocked by the method. Bangs, they say, then close your forehead and it will not be visible. My hands just dropped. I decided that we would wait for new technologies,” the woman shared.
According to Mikhail Korostelev, such a defect in the nasal septum is really difficult to fix. Usually you have to do several operations, while using tissue from the forehead, behind the ear or lower lip.
The operation lasted over four hours. The girl has already recovered and goes to school.
