Maxim Parshukov maintains his Youtube channel, shares his projects on Instagram and does not just remake cars — he teaches others how this can be done on your own. He talks about how social networks help develop his hobby in an interview for Mobil.
Maxim, hello! We saw the Volga project with lights on your Instagram. Tell me about it.
This car was purchased by a sponsor so that I could show the results of my work on it and shoot it for social networks. Initially, they only planned to put wheels and lower the car, but since the culture of lowriding in Russia is quite developed, they decided to upgrade it somehow. I knew that there was no such Volga in Russia with such a fire on the body and I decided to do something unique, but at the same time in the old style, which stood at the origins of lowriding.
My friend and I thought for a long time what to do, and we came across a photograph of a Chevrolet Impala with a fire on the hood, from which it was decided to build on. But then a problem arose — the body was rotten in places and it had to be restored and repainted, but the color of the new paint was very different from the original. Then the idea came to my mind to make a patina — to artificially age the coating on the car. This decorative style is often used to create the effect of a kind of plaque that forms over time from dust and rust.
The car is not yet on air suspension, but the springs have been updated, the modern suspension has been updated, the wheels have been installed by American Cragar SS.
The exhaust has been improved, two pipes assembled on BMW resonators have been removed from the beginning of the engine, the sound has become very powerful, which raises many questions at the traffic police inspectors on the roads.
I also plan to install a real chandelier in the salon, like in Soviet houses, to make fur around the cabin. It causes a lot of positive emotions, people often pay attention.
How long did this project take?
I was in no hurry, so the project took about a month. There were many different ideas that needed to be coordinated and comprehended. I wanted to do something that no one else has and that fully corresponds to the years in which the car was produced — according to the American canons of this culture, the wheels, engine and body must be one year old. Therefore, I did not change the inside, and so as not to create problems with the traffic police for myself. For me, this is an everyday car for city trips, so it has enough native characteristics.
And what do you pour into this car?
There is such a joke in our environment that you need to add oil to the Volga, not change it. While experimenting, looking for the perfect oil. Mobil was recently advised, so now I decided to switch to it. Running in for now, checking.
Tell me a few words about the workshop.
This is my workshop, it is called the Southern style, because I live in the south, in Krasnodar. I have always dealt with cars, and despite the fact that for quite a long time I was in the military, after the service I was still drawn to this topic. He moved to Krasnodar from Vladikavkaz, rented a room, first made his Volga 21st. As a child, I reviewed “Pimp Your Wheelbarrow” and dreamed of doing tuning professionally. For the portfolio, I first made my Volga, then a sponsor appeared who gave me the opportunity to show the result on a new car and helped me purchase some tools. I did something for my friends, then started a channel on Youtube, and people began to come with requests to redo something for them.
In the workshop, together with a friend, they made repairs, I photographed and filmed the result of my alterations, and in at some point there were so many orders that I took two of my subscribers as my assistants. They are cool guys who are responsible for their work.
There were, of course, failures, sometimes we had to remake cars at our own expense, but we are always ready to make contact. Mostly now we are engaged in painting, but tuning is also ordered.
What projects do you have in your plans?
My first car, GAZ 21, will be a field for experimentation. I want to use her example to show on my channel how you can transform the car yourself and without any hassle. I wanted to underestimate it greatly, my goal is to make the lowest Volga. It literally had to be cut and reassembled. In the front, there are custom spars from Rare Garage — the guys gave them to me when they saw my post on instagram, where I talked about how I crushed the “muzzle” of the car on the rails. I will put an American engine like a Chevrolet Malibu or from a Jeep Grand Cherokee. It will be a custom project, not lowriding.
Do you like your work?
This is my life. For me, a car is a way of self-expression. I am an artist who chose not to paint still lifes and landscapes, but to create on a car instead of a canvas.
