Ukraine — in the focus of the annual Cartoon Movie Animated Feature Film Co-Production Forum. This week the forum is being held in French Bordeaux.
One of the most notable events of the forum and Ukrainian animation is the new film «Mavka. Forest Song», which was announced at the Cartoon Movie forum back in 2017. And now the film is here again in finished form, soon it will be released all over the world.
Anastasia Verlinskaya, director of the Linoleum Animation Festival, says:
«Thanks to Cartoon Movie a few years ago, we enlisted the support of international partners, the film has already received recognition. Therefore, I believe and hope that now the film will be an international success, because it tells a lot about our culture, represents and shows our country. All mise en scenes and locations are inspired by real places in Ukraine».
The world premiere of the film took place in Kiev on March 3, breaking all box office records, including Avatar: 200,000 viewers have already watched the film in Ukraine. A resounding success for wartime, despite the fact that Ukrainian animation is going through hard times.
«First of all, we lack funding,» continues Anastasia Verlinskaya, «In fact, we completely lost it last year : all state funding went to the needs of the army, and many representatives of the cultural industry today are at the forefront. Some, alas, died at the front. But many still continue to create and support life in our culture. So, in a sense, Ukrainian culture is in your hands, in the hands of Europe and the whole world, the hands that support it.
«Mavka» is a love story filled with mystery and fairy-tale characters, in which, as expected, the forces of good and evil collide .
The film will be released in Europe and worldwide in the spring.
