Archaeologists have found an ancient comb made from a human skull

MOSCOW, 4 Mar. In England, while working on the construction of a highway in Bar Hill, they found a fragment of a comb made in the Iron Age (750 BC — 43 AD). The discovery was made back in 2018, but the results of his research have only just been published. They are presented on the MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) website.

At first glance, the accessory is no different from other similar products of that era. But it's not. It turned out that the comb was made from the bone of a human skull and had never been used in everyday life — there were no signs of wear on its teeth.

Scientists have determined that a hole was made in the artifact. Probably, the item was attached to clothing. Archaeologists suggest that the comb was worn as an amulet. And they created a charm from the remains of an important person, who was honored even after death.

This is the third such artifact in Britain. Two others were also discovered near Bar Hill — one of them was excavated in the 1970s, and the second in the 2000s. Scientists believe the finds may be indicative of an Iron Age tradition unique to the region.
Earlier it was reported about the tomb of a man and a woman who died 3200 years ago found in Armenia.
