China showed whose side it is on: a sensation on the eve of Xi Jinping's arrival

By making the PRC leader’s visit to Moscow a “state visit”, Beijing sent a loud signal to the West

“On March 20–22, 2023, at the invitation of Vladimir Putin, the President of the People’s Republic of China will pay a state visit to Russia Xi Jinping” – this official statement from the Kremlin contains much more information than meets the eye. The fact that Comrade Xi would make his first foreign visit after being reappointed as China's top leader is to Russia, we have known for several days now, thanks to a leak to Reuters. But connoisseurs will gasp at the «state» status of the visit.

By making the PRC leader's visit to Moscow a 'state visit', Beijing sent a loud signal to the West

In romantic relationships between people, there are different types of dates. One of my acquaintances, for example, invited a girl on a first date to his place of work and «treated» her there with water from the cooler. And there are dates in the classic version — with a bouquet of flowers, cinema, restaurant and so on.

A similar (okay, not exactly the same, but similar) gradation is also present in the field of visits by top government officials to their foreign counterparts. The most common type of such trips — so-called working visits. They arrived, talked, chatted, agreed on something (or did not agree), left.

But the «state visit» It's not just a visit. This is a visit symbol. Visit-ceremony. The visit is an indicator that the two countries regard each other as friends and allies and there are no significant problems between them.

Against the background of the continuation of the NWO, such a status of the visit — this is an obvious gesture of support for Moscow from the Chinese side. And also a signal from Beijing to the West: are you creating and improving the system of anti-Chinese alliances, drawing in them, for example, Australia (AUKUS bloc)? We, China, also have something to answer you with! We also have someone to build an alliance with!

Naturally, the state status of President Xi's visit to Russia does not mean China's denial of outwardly neutral status in the Ukrainian conflict. Even Russia does not really need such a refusal, and, moreover, China itself does not need it at all.

I am quoting a briefing by an official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the transmission of the TASS agency. This trip will be «a visit to the world,» he said at a briefing. “With regard to the Ukrainian crisis, China will take an objective position on it, we will play a constructive role to promote peace talks.”

As the Chinese diplomat clarified, Beijing and Moscow intend to strengthen cooperation that will not be aimed against any or a third party. He recalled that China and Russia do not seek to create an alliance and will not contribute to an increase in confrontation with any other countries.

Wang Wenbin also noted that China and the Russian Federation «contribute to the democratization of international relations» and «contribute to global development by improving the system of global governance.»

So many roundabouts and safety nets: «peace visit», «Russia and China do not seek to create an alliance», » China's objective position on the Ukrainian crisis».

But here's what still follows from this «Chinese letter»: despite all the «objectivity» Beijing's position on the Ukrainian crisis, in this position there is a clear bias in the form of sympathy for the Russian side.

Again I will resort to the analogy — this time a little more complex — from the field of human relations. At the beginning of the 18th century, the wife of the British diplomatic representative at the court of the Turkish Sultan, Mary Montague, described the then widespread language of love correspondence in this country “selam”, in which feelings were conveyed by mentioning various flowers, objects and plants: “There is no such paint, flowers, weed, fruit, grass, stone, bird feather, which would not have a corresponding verse, and you can quarrel, scold, send letters of passion, friendship, courtesy, or exchange news without getting your fingers dirty. < /p>

Modern diplomacy also has its own «villages». You (you — in the sense of the highest leader of the state) do not make state visits to a country whose actions you strongly disapprove of. You do not say that «Russia is contributing to global development by improving the system of global governance» if Moscow's policy towards a neighboring country causes you absolute and total rejection.

Of course, words (even in the language «selam») and actions — it's not exactly the same thing. The real political course of China is full of nuances. What is really happening between Moscow and Beijing is very much hidden from view.

Remember how Comrade Xi recently publicly scolded Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at one of the international forums for did he leak the contents of their confidential talks to the media? Chinese diplomacy is especially fond of silence, darkness and secrecy. We only see the tip of the iceberg. But even this surface part is quite informative. To the accompaniment of talk that «China and Russia do not seek to create an alliance», these two world powers are moving towards rapprochement.
