MOSCOW, March 16 The Second Western Military District Court on Thursday sentenced the former Colonel Gazi Isaev, head of the District Department of Internal Affairs for the Kizlyar district of Dagestan, for participating in terrorist attacks in the Moscow metro, a correspondent reports from the courtroom.
«Finally assign Isaev Gazi Magomedovich a life sentence,» presiding judge Konstantin Repeta announced the decision. In addition, the former law enforcement officer was deprived of the rank of colonel. That is exactly what the prosecution was asking for. But there is a difference in the details: the state prosecutor asked that Isaev spend the first five years in the most severe conditions, in prison, and then “move” to a special regime colony. The court appointed the entire term in a special regime.
In addition, the court exacted 17 million rubles from Isaev at the suit of the capital's metro, and rejected the claims of the other victims — crippled passengers and relatives of those killed. The latter asked to recover from an accomplice of terrorists from 400 thousand to 600 million rubles. Now they can make the same demands in civil suits.
Isaev pleaded not guilty and complained in his last word that the accusation «is based on the testimony of the people he imprisoned.» At the beginning of the process, he expressed the opinion that the case was fabricated because he «wanted to imprison the head of the Kizlyar region.»
As the investigation proved, Isaev was a member of the banned Islamist organization «Emarat Kavkaz» * and warned them about the activities in his line. Moreover, according to the materials of the case, Isaev personally delivered one of the suicide bombers with a «shahid belt» by car to a bus station in the Kizlyar region, from where she left for Moscow.
The terrorist act thundered in Moscow on March 29, 2010: suicide bombers blew themselves up at the Lubyanka and Park Kultury stations at intervals of less than an hour. 39 people died, 128 were injured of varying severity.
Magomedali Vagabov, one of the leaders of the sabotage and terrorist underground operating in Dagestan, was named the organizer of the explosions by the special services. It was liquidated in 2010.
In September 2013, law enforcement agencies announced the destruction during a special operation of the head of the «Caucasus Emirate» * Doku Umarov, who repeatedly claimed responsibility for major terrorist attacks, including the explosions at the Lubyanka » and «Park Kultury».
In February 2022, Magomed Nurov received a life sentence — he, acting as a liaison, took gang members to meetings where explosions were planned in the subway, and hid participants in the terrorist attack from law enforcement agencies.
