The novelty of the Italian brand received (for the first time in more than a decade!) a non-rigid top and the same 620-horsepower V8 biturbo engine with a volume of 3, 9 liters, like a coupe.
Ferrari recently announced a new product, “hiding” it behind teasers and an extremely vague description of “something special”. Now the assumptions have been confirmed: the Italian manufacturer has really prepared the Roma Spider — a variant of the «two-door» with an open top. Recall that the coupe, named after the capital of Italy, Rome, debuted in the fall of 2019.

Ferrari has unveiled the Roma Spider as part of an exclusive customer event in Morocco. Note that the novelty became the unwitting successor to the front-engined 365 GTS/4 Daytona convertible, which had a soft roof (the model was produced from 1969 to 1973). More current models, such as the Ferrari Portofino and the current Portofino M, have hard tops. It is worth noting that the mid-engined Ferrari F430 Spider, which was produced from 2005 to 2009, also had a soft roof.
Ferrari will subsequently retire the Portofino M, replacing the entry-level open-top model with the Roma Spider. According to the developers, the new soft top has almost the same sound insulation and provides the same acoustic comfort as hard top cars (from Webasto). For the roof of the Roma Spider, a custom-made five-layer fabric is used in two colors to choose from — black or dark red.
The new roof folds at speeds up to 60 km/h, the mechanism spends 13.5 seconds for this. Compared to a hard top, the fabric version saves weight and space: in the folded version, such a roof takes up 220 mm of space. Ferrari noted that the folded top does not greatly affect the volume of the trunk, but did not specify by how much. With the roof up, the Roma Spider's cargo space is 255 litres.

The boot lid of the Roma Spider has a black trapezoidal insert with rounded corners. This is a lifting wing that operates in three operating positions: low drag, medium downforce, and high downforce. As the developers explained, in the third position, the movable element creates an angle of 135 degrees with the surface of the rear screen, located behind the headrests of the second row of seats. The result is a downforce equivalent to 95 kg (at 250 km/h) while increasing drag by only 4%.

The seating formula of the novelty is the same as that of the Roma coupe — “2+” (that is, the second row of seats, despite the presence of head restraints, is rather intended for sports bags). The so-called “air scarf” is available to the driver and passenger in the front seats — the function of supplying warm air to the necks. There are no other differences from the interior of the closed «two-door».

The Ferrari Roma Spider is also the same like the coupe. We are talking about the V8 biturbo engine of the F154 family. Its volume is 3.9 liters, power — 620 hp, and maximum torque — 760 Nm. The engine is mated to an eight-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic. of the new model is 1556 kg, which is 84 kg more than the Roma coupe and 11 kg more than the Portofino M hardtop. Roma Spider gains the first “hundred” in 3.4 seconds (for comparison: Portofino M — in 3.45 seconds, Roma coupe — in 3.4 seconds), the model accelerates to 200 km/h in 9.7 seconds (Portofino M — in 9.8 seconds, coupe Roma — in 9.3 seconds). The maximum speed exceeds 320 km/h. The prices of the model have been announced by the company.
