Mysterious ancient tomb of man and woman found in Armenia

MOSCOW, March 2 A burial site dating back to 1300-1200 BC was found in the ancient fortress city of Metsamor in Armenia, according to the Nauka website w Polsce.
The grave contains a man and a woman who, according to preliminary estimates, died at the age of 30-40 years. They were probably a couple. The remains are well preserved.

«Their death is a mystery, because we do not know its causes. But everything points to the fact that they died at the same time — there are no traces of the re-opening of the tomb,» said archaeologist Krzysztof Jakubiak.

He called the find unique — the richly equipped tomb was not plundered. Scientists have seen more than a hundred beads and gold pendants there — some look like Celtic crosses. They also found dozens of carnelian pendants, about a dozen ceramic vessels and a faience flask in the grave.

Scientists do not know what kind of people lived in Metsamor in the second half of the second millennium — there are no texts left, and this makes identification difficult. But the settlement was large, no other comparable in importance at the end of the second millennium is known in this region.
