The Chinese brand Kaiyi is one of Avtotor's new partners to replace BMW, Hyundai and Kia that have ceased cooperation. The brand from China itself can be considered the successor to Cowin, which was created by Chery in 2014 for budget cars. The Cowin brand did not live up to expectations, so a controlling stake was sold to the firm of the Yibin provincial government and the structures of the Wuliangye Group (wine producer). But at the same time, Cheri remained the owner of a large stake, in addition, she is still responsible for the equipment. So, the sedan was the first on the conveyor of the Kaliningrad plant, which in the Russian Federation received the name Kaiyi E5 (in the homeland it is Xuandu), that is, the converted Chery Arrizo 7 (this “four-door” was once sold in the Russian Federation — under the native brand). The start of screwdriver production was officially announced at the end of January this year. Now the price has been announced and orders are open.

Recall that Avtotor does not just act as an assembly site (by the way, a transition to a full cycle is planned in the future): the company received the exclusive right to distribute Kaiyi products in the Russian Federation and a number of CIS countries. At the same time, a separate company, Kai Rus LLC, was established for sales and service. According to information posted on the Russian consumer website Kaiyi, the brand now has seven stores, all of them in Moscow. Where and when the new centers will open is not yet reported. But back to the new one.
The Kaiyi E5 sedan is a classmate of the Kia Cerato and Hyundai Elantra. It is stated that the length of our version is 4670 mm (in the Chinese specification — 4666 mm), width — 1825 mm, height — 1483 mm, wheelbase — 2700 mm. The default model has a multi-link rear suspension. In the Russian Federation, the E5 is offered with a non-alternative petrol “turbo four” 1.5 with a capacity of 147 hp. (210 Nm), which is familiar from Chery's models. The engine can be “powered” by AI-92, while there is only one box — a variator. The drive, of course, is only front.

At the moment, the “four-door” is available in the only rich Luxury package, its arsenal includes: LED optics, 17-inch wheels, tidy with a 7-inch color display, a multimedia system with a 10.25-inch tablet, heated front seats, climate installation, power sunroof, wireless smartphone charger, front and side airbags, vehicle stability control, surround view cameras, cruise control, keyless entry system and engine start button. The price of Kaiyi E5 Luxury is from 1,959,000 rubles. Later, simpler configurations will probably appear.
Following the sedan, the Kaiyi X3 crossovers (aka Showjet in China, made from Chery Tiggo 4) and X3 Pro (a variation of the first, but with its own design), as well as the flagship SUV X7 Kunlun.
